Leveraging Ultrasound Imaging to Expand the Scope of Traditional Gait Analyses – 2024 Seminar

The Leveraging Ultrasound Imaging to Expand the Scope of Traditional Gait Analyses seminar took place on August 15, 2024 and included presentations from Dr. Robert Dima, Dr. Derek Pamukoff, and Dr. Matthew Harkey. The seminar was co-moderated by Dr. Michael Hunt and Dr. Janie Astephen Wilson.

The hybrid seminar had around 60 participants both in-person and online, and researchers at all stages from across Canada attended the session.

A recording of the 1 hour 30 minute seminar is featured here:

1. Dr. Robert Dima is a researcher and diagnostic sonographer. His work focuses on sonography professional development, machine learning for image analysis, and clinical quality improvement. Dr. Dima’s doctoral work focused on advanced ultrasound techniques and their application to musculoskeletal imaging, particularly in arthritis diagnosis and monitoring. He is dedicated to enhancing sonography education and bridging the gap between research and clinical practice to improve patient outcomes.

2. Dr. Derek Pamukoff is an Associate Professor in the School of Kinesiology at Western University. He examines biomechanical and neuromuscular contributors to knee joint health and performance across the lifespan. Dr. Pamukoff’s presentation is titled Step-by-Step: Optimizing Knee Health through Ultrasound and Biomechanical Analyses.

3. Dr. Matthew Harkey, Assistant Professor of Kinesiology at Michigan State University, specializes in early detection of knee osteoarthritis following knee injury and surgery. His interdisciplinary research combines movement biomechanics, ultrasound imaging, and patient-reported outcomes to identify risk factors that inform secondary prevention strategies. Dr. Harkey aims to proactively target the early stages of osteoarthritis, potentially altering disease trajectory and improving long-term joint health.

We thank our amazing presenters for a wonderful seminar!
