Trainee Support Opportunities

1. Trainee Conference Travel Support – 2026 (January)

We are pleased to announce the return of our annual Canadian MSK Rehab Research Network Trainee Conference Travel Support. Now in its eighth year, this program will provide up to $15,000 in three tiers of reimbursements based on travelling distance:

  • Within Province or Virtual Presentation (please note for virtual presentations trainees will only be reimbursed for conference registration): up to $500 per person
  • Neighbouring Province (ex. Ontario to Quebec, Alberta to BC): up to $1,500 per person
  • National or International Travel: up to $2,000 per person

The purpose of the reimbursement is to assist trainees with travel expenses to present their research at a conference related to MSK rehabilitation (via poster, oral or other form of presentation). These reimbursements are intended to cover conference travel, registration, lodging, and meal expenses to attend a conference at which the trainee has been accepted to present their research. Note that reimbursements will be subject to abstract submission and approval at the conference you plan to attend. Applications will be adjudicated.

Deadline: The application deadline is 5 pm ET February 16, 2026. Applications will begin being reviewed on February 17, 2026.

2. Trainee Exchanges

We are pleased to announce the Canadian MSK Rehab Research Network Trainee Exchanges. We will be supporting up to 2 individuals annually with reimbursements of up to $5000 CAD.

The purpose of the Trainee Exchange is to provide financial support for travel and lodging expenses, enabling trainees to spend an extended amount of time working in a host supervisor’s laboratory/program of research. Host sites can be located within Canada or internationally. Through this exchange, trainees are expected to learn new skills and gain experience in new techniques which they can bring back to their institutions and apply to their research.

Please note that reimbursements are contingent upon securing a host site/lab, host supervisor, and matched funding from the supervisor(s)/investigator(s) from the home or host institution(s).

Application Timeframe: The Network will evaluate applications twice per year once on January 15th, the next on June 15th. Applications will be adjudicated by a committee.

Length of Site Visit: The visits should be a minimum of 6 weeks and a maximum of 4 months. Selecting when a recipient will travel to their host site/lab is determined by the recipient trainee, their host supervisor, and their home program supervisor – and must meet any additional requirements of the trainee’s educational program and at the host institution.
