Fragility Fracture Network North American Regional Congress October 22nd, 2024

The Fragility Fracture Network (FFN) North American Chapter is hosting a 1-day meeting in Montreal on Tuesday, October 22nd, 2024.

The FFN is a global network that aims to improve the interdisciplinary care, including secondary prevention (e.g. fall prevention), of patients experiencing fragility fracture.

Early Career Researchers, Post-Doctoral Fellows, MSc and PhD students, submit your abstracts and showcase your work to influential researchers, clinicians and decision-makers to help advance knowledge and innovation in care of patients with fragility fractures. Abstract submissions are due July 15th.

PAINtalks 2024

The Canadian MSK Rehab Research Network will be partnering with PAINtalks hosted by the Quebec Network of Junior Pain Investigators. The 9th edition of PAINtalks will take place via a hybrid format from the Gesù venue in Montreal on November 7th, 2024, at 6:30pm ET.

PAINtalks is a bilingual initiative, free and open to the public that utilizes TED-style presentations focused on the field of pain. Speakers are asked to discuss controversies and advancements in the field of pain.

The 4th International Symposium for Arthrogryposis

The 4th International Symposium for Arthrogryposis hosted by the Shriners Hospital for Children will take place in Montreal on September 29th to October 1st, 2024. Pre-congress workshops will occur on Saturday September 28th.

Sessions, panels, and pre-congress workshops will centre around the symposium’s theme “From the womb to adulthood” and showcase experts in orthopedics, rehabilitation, genetics, neurology and people with lived experience from across the world.

Patient Engagement in Research 101 Workshop

The CIHR Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis (IMHA) and the CIHR Institute of Genetics (IG) will be hosting the Patient Engagement in Research 101 Workshop June 19th, 2024, from 1-3pm AT in Halifax, Nova Scotia or Online. The Workshop aims to support trainees in developing best practices for patient engagement in health research.

Attendance will be open to 45 trainees, 30 in-person and 15 virtual. Participants must Express Interest in the Workshop by April 30th, 2024, and decisions will be made by May 22nd, 2024.

Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS) 2025 Annual Meeting

The ORS 2025 Annual Meeting will take place February 7th to 11th in Phoenix, Arizona. The Annual Meeting will bring the orthopaedic community together to take part in five days of workshops, learning sessions, networking, advocacy, and more. Attendees from various career stages and many disciplines will gather to learn about the latest innovations in orthopaedics.

The ORS Scientific Program Committee is seeking workshop applications for the Annual Meeting. Workshop applications must be submitted by April 22nd.

The ORS Research Council is seeking ideas for Symposia, Back to Basics, and Bench to Bedside sessions for the Annual Meeting. Ideas must be submitted by April 22nd.

The ORS is looking for suggestions for Spotlight Speakers for the Annual Meeting. Suggestions must be submitted by April 22nd.

Abstract submissions will be open from June 17th to August 26th, 2024.

Chronic Pain Centre of Excellence (CPCoE) 2024 Funding Opportunities

The CPCoE is hosting an Applicant Webinar Wednesday April 17th at 12pm EST to share more about the 2024-2025 CPCoE funding Opportunities. The webinar will provide information on the request for proposals and allow participants to ask questions.

The CPCoE funds research focused on improving the well-being of Veterans, and their families, who live with chronic pain. To allocate funding the CPCoE hosts a competitive application process culminating in review by the Scientific Advisory Board. Additionally, the CPCoE has funding for capacity building available to graduate students that aims to support research related to Veteran’s chronic pain.

Research funding is available from March 26 to June 30, 2024

Post-Doctoral Fellowship Opportunity – Better Mobility Lab

The Better Mobility Lab at the University of Calgary invites applications for a 1-year post-doctoral fellowship with an anticipated start date of April 15, 2024. The candidate will investigate the quantitative and qualitative effects of a novel interactive video-based application for teaching walking aid skills to patients and clinicians.

The candidate must have a PhD. The ideal candidate will have experience in clinical trials and mixed-methods analyses. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, statistical software, and referencing software is required. A strong publication record, experience with NVivo, clinical experience with walking aids, and experience investigating novel technologies would be assets.

Training Opportunity with Dr. Michael Hunt (UBC)

Dr. Michael Hunt and the Motion Analysis and Biofeedback Laboratory at the University of British Columbia is looking for a PhD student to undertake studies in the areas of clinical biomechanics or musculoskeletal rehabilitation. Possible topics include rehabilitative approaches to manage knee osteoarthritis, running injury research, and movement and activity measurement with wearable sensors.
