Prospective Student Seeking Post-Doctoral Fellowship – Sahar Johari

Sahar Johari recently completed her PhD in Rehabilitation Science (physical therapy) at Western University under the supervision of Dr. Joy MacDermid. With a background in Occupational Therapy, her research focuses on musculoskeletal rehabilitation, balance and fall prevention, and bone health in older adults, particularly those with osteoporosis, fragility fractures, and fear of falling.

Sahar’s doctoral work combined systematic and scoping reviews, qualitative research, and tool development/validation to create a balance-focused clinical decision support tool for therapists. Sahar also collaborates at the Hand and Upper Limb Centre (St. Joseph’s Hospital, London, ON), contributing to projects on upper-limb recovery and functional outcomes. Sahar brings expertise in mixed-methods research, qualitative and quantitative analysis, and knowledge translation.

Sahar is seeking postdoctoral opportunities in musculoskeletal rehabilitation, aging, and women’s health, particularly those involving clinical and implementation research, digital or remote rehabilitation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Prospective Student Seeking Post-Doctoral Fellowship – Raghava Neelapala Yuva Venkata

Raghava Neelapala is seeking post-doctoral opportunities in the areas of pain mechanisms and targeted rehabilitation strategies for knee osteoarthritis.

Raghava Neelapala is a physical therapist by training and a recent PhD graduate from the School of Rehabilitation Science, McMaster University. His PhD work, supervised by Dr. Lisa Carlesso, focused on identifying phenotypes and examining the role of adiposity and systemic inflammation in knee osteoarthritis (OA).

He is a recipient of competitive scholarships from the Arthritis Society, Canada, McMaster Institute of Pain Research and Care, and McMaster Institute of Research in Aging. The scientific impact of his work has been published in 25 peer-reviewed articles and presented at over 15 conferences.

He is seeking post-doctoral opportunities to further his training and contribution to the field of chronic musculoskeletal pain, specifically in the areas of subgroup-specific treatment approaches for the rehabilitation of knee OA.

IMPACTs LAB – Dr. Myles O’Brien Paid Graduate Student Recruitment

Dr. Myles O’Brien is recruiting students interested in Graduate studies (Master’s or Doctoral) and studying MSK health & active aging. Students interested in promoting movement in community/hospital settings, epidemiology, frailty, and/or musculoskeletal function with objective measures are particularly encouraged to apply. His research program spans clinical trial, applied mechanistic, and epidemiological study designs. Specific thesis projects and independent studies will be determined based on interest and desired skillsets.

Funding is in place to support student scholarships related to MSK health clinical trials and epidemiological projects.

The successful applicant(s) will work within Dr. O’Brien’s research team and collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary IMPACTs lab. The successful applicant will be embedded within the Department of Medicine at the Centre de Formation Medicalé Nouveau-Brunswick in Moncton, New Brunswick.

General & Specific Requirements:

  • Ability to write and speak in both English and French
  • Sufficient course marks for graduate studies.
  • Available for in-person work in New Brunswick.
  • Experience working with older adults, wearable technology, coding, big datasets, health outcomes, MSK function and/or cardiovascular function is an asset (not mandatory).

Post-Doctoral Fellowship Position – University of California, San Francisco

Dr. Kristine Godziuk has an opportunity for a Postdoctoral Fellow in her lab at the University of California, San Francisco, in the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science.

Dr. Godziuk’s research examines obesity, aging and musculoskeletal health, with a focus on sarcopenic obesity prevention and treatment, and obesity subtypes in osteoarthritis and arthroplasty. Dr. Godziuk’s lab conducts patient-centered clinical research and addresses issues around women’s health and weight-based disparities in health care.

Post-Doctorial Fellowship Position – McGill University

Dr. Noémi Dahan-Oliel is looking to hire a post-doctoral fellow for a project that entails establishing psychometric properties, quantitative and qualitative methods, knowledge translation and patient-oriented research in pediatric rare musculoskeletal diseases.

The position is opened to PhD holders (doctoral diploma obtained after 2020, under 5 years at the time of hiring) in rehabilitation sciences, occupational therapy, physical therapy, medicine or another allied-health field.

The post-doctoral fellow will be paid via a yearly salary between $45,000-48,000, renewable for up to 3 years depending on funding and productivity of the candidate.

Navigating the Future: Scholarship and Career Options for Trainees

The Canadian MSK Rehab Research Network Trainee Committee will be hosting a webinar designed for trainees by trainees titled: Navigating the Future: Scholarship and Career Options for Trainees on November 15th, 2024, from 12:30pm-2pm EST.

The event is focused primarily on trainee career and professional development and will include sessions on scholarship writing, industry-academic opportunities, things to think about before moving to begin a PhD or postdoctoral position, and transitioning to an industry position. The session will feature presentations from Dr. Roberta Bgeginski, Kyoko Sutton, Amin MohammadiNasrabadi, and Dr. Adrian Lai. The session will be moderated by Dr. Jesse Charlton.
