Health Services Research and Health Economic Evaluation Summer School

The Health Services Research and Health Economic Evaluation Summer School is a partnership with the McCaig Institute for Bone and Joint Health at the University of Calgary. The week will focus on health services research, economic evaluation, costing, model-based analysis, and much more!

General Requirements

  • Applicants must be graduate students registered and attending a Canadian post-secondary institution.
  • Applicants must be a member of the Canadian MSK Rehab Research Network (If you are not already a Network member, apply here: https://mskrehabnet.com/about/current-members/)
  • Applicants will be required to include a 750-word Letter of Interest and a 2-page brief Curriculum Vitae (see the application for more details).

Important Details

  • There is no registration fee for any attendee.
  • Funding support will be provided to trainees who need to travel from out of province in order to attend the summer school. Funding support will include your accommodation and $500 for travel from a neighbouring province, or $1000 for travel from elsewhere (e.g., Ontario, Nova Scotia, etc.). Local students may be able to attend without funding as they will not need accommodation or travel support.
  • Supervisors are expected to provide a minimum of $500 to help cover travel costs for their students. Any trainee not located in the Greater Calgary area (for the University of Calgary Summer School) or the Greater Vancouver area (for the University of British Columbia Summer School) and that needs travel support must provide written proof that their supervisor is providing $500 support to assist with travel expenses.
  • We will be accepting trainees from across Canada. However, due to limited funds and capacity we cannot accept all applications. A review process will be used to determine the successful candidates.
  • Please read the Application Instructions (at the beginning of the Qualtrics form) thoroughly before completing the application as each summer school has its own requirements.

Roundtable Discussion: Bots & Fraudulent Data in Survey Research

Digital tools and automation create new challenges for researchers to navigate when conducting virtual surveys. A significant concern is the rising number of bots and fraudulent data. Due to the increase in AI, it is critical to understand how to maintain quality data.

The University of Waterloo will be hosting a round table discussion on bots and fraudulent data in survey research. Best practices for detecting and preventing bot participation, identifying and cleaning fraudulent data, and addressing the challenges posed by imposter respondents will be explored during the session.

Registration for the free kNOw-PAIN Conference is now open! The event is open to all who are interested, including researchers, clinicians, patients, and others.

Webinar – Understanding the Journal Review Process

In 2025 the Network will be hosting the Writing and Publication Online Webinar Series which will include 4 sessions on: 1) publishing in MSK rehab research journals, 2) tools and technology for writing manuscripts, 3) creating tables and figures, and 4) patient partner engagement and authorship.

The first session titled Understanding the Journal Review Process: Views from Editorial Review Members will be held on February 5th, at 2:30pm-3:30pm EST. Participants will be able to ask a panel of editorial review members anything they would like to know about the publishing process.

Navigating the Future: Scholarship and Career Options for Trainees

The Canadian MSK Rehab Research Network Trainee Committee will be hosting a webinar designed for trainees by trainees titled: Navigating the Future: Scholarship and Career Options for Trainees on November 15th, 2024, from 12:30pm-2pm EST.

The event is focused primarily on trainee career and professional development and will include sessions on scholarship writing, industry-academic opportunities, things to think about before moving to begin a PhD or postdoctoral position, and transitioning to an industry position. The session will feature presentations from Dr. Roberta Bgeginski, Kyoko Sutton, Amin MohammadiNasrabadi, and Dr. Adrian Lai. The session will be moderated by Dr. Jesse Charlton.
