PAINtalks 2024

The Canadian MSK Rehab Research Network will be partnering with PAINtalks hosted by the Quebec Network of Junior Pain Investigators. The 9th edition of PAINtalks will take place via a hybrid format from the Gesù venue in Montreal on November 7th, 2024, at 6:30pm ET.

PAINtalks is a bilingual initiative, free and open to the public that utilizes TED-style presentations focused on the field of pain. Speakers are asked to discuss controversies and advancements in the field of pain.

Data Access

Anonymized and standardized data collected by the Quebec Back Pain Consortium from more than 6700 participants with low back pain are now available to be used by researchers to further contribute to chronic pain research.

Chronic Pain Centre of Excellence (CPCoE) 2024 Funding Opportunities

The CPCoE is hosting an Applicant Webinar Wednesday April 17th at 12pm EST to share more about the 2024-2025 CPCoE funding Opportunities. The webinar will provide information on the request for proposals and allow participants to ask questions.

The CPCoE funds research focused on improving the well-being of Veterans, and their families, who live with chronic pain. To allocate funding the CPCoE hosts a competitive application process culminating in review by the Scientific Advisory Board. Additionally, the CPCoE has funding for capacity building available to graduate students that aims to support research related to Veteran’s chronic pain.

Research funding is available from March 26 to June 30, 2024

Canadian MSK Rehab Research Network Meeting – CORS Annual Meeting

Join the Canadian MSK Rehab Research Network at the Canadian Orthopaedic Research Society (CORS) Annual Meeting this June!

The Canadian MSK Rehab Research Network will be hosting an annual network meeting on Wednesday, June 12th, 2024 from 12pm to 2pm AT. The meeting will take place at the Halifax Convention Centre in room 506/507 during the CORS Annual Meeting in Halifax. The meeting is open to anyone interested in learning about Network initiatives and plans for the Network going forward. The meeting schedule is as follows:

  • Introduction of the current status of the MSK Rehab Research Network – Where we were and where we are going. Presenter: Joy MacDermid. (15 minutes)
  • Gait Net – progress and findings from an emerging national biomechanics collaboration. Presenters: Jesse Charlton, Janie Wilson. (15 minutes)
  • Challenges in MSK Outcome assessment; The role for core outcome measures in orthopaedic clinical research and platforms. Presenter: Joy MacDermid. (15 minutes)
  • National collaboration in multi-centre clinical trials and cohort studies. Presenter: Emil Schemitsch. (15 minutes)
  • Have your say – Group discussion on how to advance MSK rehab research. (1 hour)

The final hour of the meeting will be focused on discussing Network priorities and connecting with Network members. Join us to provide your input on network priorities!

For those who cannot attend in person, the meeting will be live-streamed over Zoom. A Zoom link will be sent to all Network members via email before the Network meeting.

You do not have to be a Network member to attend this session and we encourage non-members to join us!

2024 IMHA Webinar Series

The Institutes of Musculoskeletal Health & Arthritis are proud to host their 2024 webinar series on patient engagement in research.

This is a patient-led initiative from IMHA’s Patient Engagement Research Ambassadors in collaboration with the PxP (For Patients, By Patients) platform.

There will be four webinars throughout the year, and the first will be about demystifying the research process from patient partner perspectives on March 21 2:00 pm – 3:15 pm PST / 5:00 pm – 6:15 pm EST / 10:00 pm – 11:15 pm UTC.

The priority audience is patient partners, but we encourage all members of research teams to attend.

Post-Doctoral Fellowship Opportunity – Better Mobility Lab

The Better Mobility Lab at the University of Calgary invites applications for a 1-year post-doctoral fellowship with an anticipated start date of April 15, 2024. The candidate will investigate the quantitative and qualitative effects of a novel interactive video-based application for teaching walking aid skills to patients and clinicians.

The candidate must have a PhD. The ideal candidate will have experience in clinical trials and mixed-methods analyses. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, statistical software, and referencing software is required. A strong publication record, experience with NVivo, clinical experience with walking aids, and experience investigating novel technologies would be assets.

Survey on Telerehabilitation for Physical Rehabilitation Clinicians

Our survey on telerehabilitation for physical rehabilitation clinicians is now available.  This survey is part of a pan-Canadian study funded by the CIHR on telerehabilitation entitled: Avoiding pitfalls in virtual care: paving the way for more ethical and equitable standards of practice in rehabilitation, led by Professors Dahlia Kairy and Anne Hudon from the University of Montreal.

Who is the survey for?

All clinicians who practice physical rehabilitation, including:

-Physiotherapists/Physiotherapy technologists

-Occupational therapists

-Spe3ch language pathologists/ Audiologists

-Neuropsychologists /Psychologists

-Vision therapists

AND :

– those who have used or are currently using telerehabilitation in their practice or;
– who are interested in telerehabilitation (even if they never used it)

Objective of the survey:

This project aims to better understand the rapid scaling up of telerehabilitation and draw a portrait of telerehabilitation telepractices in Canada in order to create tools to facilitate the adoption of telerehabilitation based on best practices from an ethical point of view. The results of the survey will help us identify obstacles, facilitators and ethical issues in order to support the scaling up and sustainability of telerehabilitation in Canada.

The survey is confidential and lasts approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
