Service Design in Health Research Workshop

The CIHR Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis (IMHA) and the Institute of Health Services and Policy Research (IHSPR) will be hosting the Service Design in Health Research Workshop on June 23rd from 1 to 4 PM EDT.

This interactive workshop is designed for research team members looking to improve health interventions using design thinking. Participants will explore frameworks and methods to refine the development of health interventions, and learn about design heuristic techniques and assumption mapping to identify gaps in their research framing and methodology. This session will also provide participants with strategies for improving research design and fostering meaningful collaborations with underserved communities, especially diverse and underrepresented groups for shorter projects.

The deadline to submit an Expression of Interest to participate is June 13th, and seats will be offered first-come, first-served.

Canadian Arthritis Summer School

Apply to attend the virtual Canadian Arthritis Summer School (CASS)

Be part of the Canadian Arthritis Summer School (CASS) from June 3-5, 2025. This unique 3-day virtual event will bring together patient partners and trainees to foster learning, collaboration, and innovation in arthritis research.

Summer school sessions will include:

  • A day in the life of a researcher, clinician, patient partner and trainee
  • How to appraise grant applications and scientific articles
  • Indigenous Engagement and being an ally in research
  • And other sessions including scientific talks, best practice in patient engagement in research, and interactive skill-building workshops

Participez à l’Atelier d’été canadien sur l’arthrite (AECA) du 3 au 5 juin 2025. Cet événement virtuel unique de trois jours réunissant des patients partenaires et des stagiaires visant à favoriser l’apprentissage, la collaboration et l’innovation dans la recherche à l’arthrite.

Voici le contenu offert durant l’Atelier d’été:

  • une journée dans la vie d’un chercheur, d’un clinicien, d’un patient partenaire et d’un stagiaire;
  • l’évaluation de demandes de subvention et d’articles scientifiques;
  • la mobilisation des Autochtones et la façon d’être un allié dans la recherche;
  • séances supplémentaires comprenant des conférences scientifiques, des discussions sur les pratiques exemplaires en matière de participation des patients à la recherche et des ateliers interactifs d’acquisition de compétences.

Health Services Research and Health Economic Evaluation Summer School

General Requirements

  • Applicants must be graduate students registered and attending a Canadian post-secondary institution.
  • Applicants must be a member of the Canadian MSK Rehab Research Network (If you are not already a Network member, apply here: https://mskrehabnet.com/about/current-members/)
  • Applicants will be required to include a 750-word Letter of Interest and a 2-page brief Curriculum Vitae (see the application for more details).

Important Details

  • There is no registration fee for any attendee.
  • Funding support will be provided to trainees who need to travel from out of province in order to attend the summer school. Funding support will include your accommodation and $500 for travel from a neighbouring province, or $1000 for travel from elsewhere (e.g., Ontario, Nova Scotia, etc.). Local students may be able to attend without funding as they will not need accommodation or travel support.
  • Supervisors are expected to provide a minimum of $500 to help cover travel costs for their students. Any trainee not located in the Greater Calgary area (for the University of Calgary Summer School) or the Greater Vancouver area (for the University of British Columbia Summer School) and that needs travel support must provide written proof that their supervisor is providing $500 support to assist with travel expenses.
  • We will be accepting trainees from across Canada. However, due to limited funds and capacity we cannot accept all applications. A review process will be used to determine the successful candidates.
  • Please read the Application Instructions (at the beginning of the Qualtrics form) thoroughly before completing the application as each summer school has its own requirements.

Webinar – Understanding the Journal Review Process

In 2025 the Network will be hosting the Writing and Publication Online Webinar Series which will include 4 sessions on: 1) publishing in MSK rehab research journals, 2) tools and technology for writing manuscripts, 3) creating tables and figures, and 4) patient partner engagement and authorship.

The first session titled Understanding the Journal Review Process: Views from Editorial Review Members will be held on February 5th, at 2:30pm-3:30pm EST. Participants will be able to ask a panel of editorial review members anything they would like to know about the publishing process.

Post-Doctoral Fellowship Position – University of California, San Francisco

Dr. Kristine Godziuk has an opportunity for a Postdoctoral Fellow in her lab at the University of California, San Francisco, in the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science.

Dr. Godziuk’s research examines obesity, aging and musculoskeletal health, with a focus on sarcopenic obesity prevention and treatment, and obesity subtypes in osteoarthritis and arthroplasty. Dr. Godziuk’s lab conducts patient-centered clinical research and addresses issues around women’s health and weight-based disparities in health care.

Lisandra Almeida is a PhD Candidate supervised by Dr. Luciana Macedo in the School of Rehabilitation Science at McMaster University. Lisandra will be graduating in winter 2025 and is seeking a post-doctoral position after graduation.

Here is some information directory from Lisandra regarding her research interests:

I am a physiotherapist by training and am currently in the final year of my Ph.D. I have a profound passion for research, particularly in exercise (in person and telerehabilitation) for musculoskeletal conditions. My enthusiasm for advancing knowledge in this field has driven me to conduct systematic reviews, RCTs, and longitudinal qualitative studies. I am currently seeking a post-doctoral opportunity starting in the Summer or Fall of 2025 to further my research and contribute to advancements in the field.

Training Opportunity with Dr. Michael Hunt (UBC)
