Call for Participants: Digital Health Usability Survey

The OutcomesRUS Lab, based at the Centre for Outcomes Research and Evaluation (RI-MUHC, McGill University), is conducting a research study to develop a measure that identifies key indicators of usability in digital health technologies.

The research team is seeking feedback from individuals who currently use or have experience with digital health tools.

You may be eligible to participate if you use:

  • Wearable health technologies (e.g., Fitbit, Oura Ring)

  • Health or activity-tracking applications (e.g., Strava or similar apps)

Your input will help improve the design and usability of future digital health technologies by ensuring they reflect real user experiences.

Improve Knee Joint Health Through Exercise – Study

The Mobilize Lab at the University of Waterloo is recruiting participants between the ages of 25 to 44 years old, who are currently sedentary (> 20 minutes of exercise per day) to participate in their research study.

Participants will receive 16-weeks of FREE virtual resistance training, $50 after study completion, and those who regularly exercise will be entered into bi-weekly giveaways valued at $25!

Over a 20-week period, you will be asked to complete 3 online exercise classes per week, and visit the University of Waterloo (2x) and St. Joseph’s Healthcare in Hamilton (2x) to:

  • Take MRI scans of your knee before and after a treadmill walk to measure cartilage
  • Assess body size measurements
  • Collect blood, to measure immune and inflammatory cells
  • Analyze how your leg moves, to measure forces inside the knee
  • Complete questionnaires to assess your activity and health

Prospective Student Seeking Post-Doctoral Fellowship – Sahar Johari

Sahar Johari recently completed her PhD in Rehabilitation Science (physical therapy) at Western University under the supervision of Dr. Joy MacDermid. With a background in Occupational Therapy, her research focuses on musculoskeletal rehabilitation, balance and fall prevention, and bone health in older adults, particularly those with osteoporosis, fragility fractures, and fear of falling.

Sahar’s doctoral work combined systematic and scoping reviews, qualitative research, and tool development/validation to create a balance-focused clinical decision support tool for therapists. Sahar also collaborates at the Hand and Upper Limb Centre (St. Joseph’s Hospital, London, ON), contributing to projects on upper-limb recovery and functional outcomes. Sahar brings expertise in mixed-methods research, qualitative and quantitative analysis, and knowledge translation.

Sahar is seeking postdoctoral opportunities in musculoskeletal rehabilitation, aging, and women’s health, particularly those involving clinical and implementation research, digital or remote rehabilitation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

IMPACTs LAB – Dr. Myles O’Brien Paid Graduate Student Recruitment

Dr. Myles O’Brien is recruiting students interested in Graduate studies (Master’s or Doctoral) and studying MSK health & active aging. Students interested in promoting movement in community/hospital settings, epidemiology, frailty, and/or musculoskeletal function with objective measures are particularly encouraged to apply. His research program spans clinical trial, applied mechanistic, and epidemiological study designs. Specific thesis projects and independent studies will be determined based on interest and desired skillsets.

Funding is in place to support student scholarships related to MSK health clinical trials and epidemiological projects.

The successful applicant(s) will work within Dr. O’Brien’s research team and collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary IMPACTs lab. The successful applicant will be embedded within the Department of Medicine at the Centre de Formation Medicalé Nouveau-Brunswick in Moncton, New Brunswick.

General & Specific Requirements:

  • Ability to write and speak in both English and French
  • Sufficient course marks for graduate studies.
  • Available for in-person work in New Brunswick.
  • Experience working with older adults, wearable technology, coding, big datasets, health outcomes, MSK function and/or cardiovascular function is an asset (not mandatory).

Canadian MSK Rehab Research Network Meeting – CORS Annual Meeting

Join the Canadian MSK Rehab Research Network at the Canadian Orthopaedic Research Society (CORS) Annual Meeting this June!

The Canadian MSK Rehab Research Network will be hosting an annual network meeting on Wednesday, June 12th, 2024 from 12pm to 2pm AT. The meeting will take place at the Halifax Convention Centre in room 506/507 during the CORS Annual Meeting in Halifax. The meeting is open to anyone interested in learning about Network initiatives and plans for the Network going forward. The meeting schedule is as follows:

  • Introduction of the current status of the MSK Rehab Research Network – Where we were and where we are going. Presenter: Joy MacDermid. (15 minutes)
  • Gait Net – progress and findings from an emerging national biomechanics collaboration. Presenters: Jesse Charlton, Janie Wilson. (15 minutes)
  • Challenges in MSK Outcome assessment; The role for core outcome measures in orthopaedic clinical research and platforms. Presenter: Joy MacDermid. (15 minutes)
  • National collaboration in multi-centre clinical trials and cohort studies. Presenter: Emil Schemitsch. (15 minutes)
  • Have your say – Group discussion on how to advance MSK rehab research. (1 hour)

The final hour of the meeting will be focused on discussing Network priorities and connecting with Network members. Join us to provide your input on network priorities!

For those who cannot attend in person, the meeting will be live-streamed over Zoom. A Zoom link will be sent to all Network members via email before the Network meeting.

You do not have to be a Network member to attend this session and we encourage non-members to join us!
